Lunching circle – the best idea I´ve ever had

Once upon a time, it was a warm and sunny vacation day last Summer. I was having a lunch in a nice city lunch in a really nice restaurant with a friend / colleague. Again, like many other times, we were unable to finish our meals – we could have shared one dish and that would have been enough.

I started thinking aloud what a waste of money and time it is to  grab something for lunch during work days and pay at least 10 euros each day. Or trying to prepare something at home for the next day every evening. Wouldn´t it be great to cook something nice once in a week, have a team of five colleagues and share the lunch time together enjoying each others cookings every day! My colleague was thrilled! The idea went from planning to execution faster than an idea of an afterwork on a Friday afternoon at 4 pm.

Turned out that my colleagues are fantastic cooks! We have savored many different pastas, slow cooked pulled pork burritos, sushi bowls, muhroom risotto (self picked funnel chantarelles – amazing!), pumpkin soup and many more delicious courses.

But again – it´s not just about the food. It´s about how close we have became. How we are excited to cook for each other and how lovely it is to come and sit at the table together (not knowing what we are going to eat) and start our own moment of communicating. We share the recepies, we praise each others cookings (as they really are marvellous time after time!) and enjoy each others company. Those moments are not about titles and hierarchy, we have directors, executives and trainees in our food club. These moments really make the days.

All us Finns spend approximately 8 hours each day at the office. It´s one third of our time every day. Half of the time we spend awake. You can make a difference on how you feel at your work. Communicate! Smile! Contact! Share the lunch time – or even the lunch. It´s the best idea I´ve ever had. It gives us all five so much joy and energy. And ideas what to cook at home for your family.
